Asset Security System using the Orion data network is not the same as the traditional GSM/GPS security solutions. For a start, Orion is not defeated by the commonly available GSM and GPS jammers thieves use. Secondly, as Orion works in real time, the attack can often be seen and responded to in real time. Only where there is no response, does the system then become a tracking and recovery system, utilising all the installed Orion gateways and any mobile ones in the vicinity.
The major benefit of Orion from a corporate point of view is that when dealing with hundreds or thousands of assets, there are no SIM charges. Typically the whole life cost of ownership for an Orion solution is around a quarter of that of a GSM/GPS system.
Furthermore, in remote areas a local Orion gateway can guarantee coverage. This is a network where the client can add infrastructure at will, because it is so low cost. All this means that the security net can be thrown a lot wider and include more assets. This makes attacking company assets harder for the gangs because they are more likely to be intercepted and caught either during the robbery itself of later when they are taking the goods to processing areas.
The low cost nature of the solution is important. In high volume it is very low cost. This means that Orion can be deployed to tackle retail crime in areas that have traditionally never been tried before.
